following a car accident that caused severe damage to the masonry walls of the health centre, the client requested urgent repairs to address concerns about the building’s structural safety and to restore it to its original condition.
prior to the accident, the affected area had been in excellent condition, having been refurbished by UDC just a few years earlier. however, the impact of the crash compromised its stability and raised safety concerns. .
challenges faced
a key challenge of this project was the limited workspace, which required meticulous planning to avoid disrupting building users. at the same time, the team had to uphold rigorous standards of safety, security, and effective management throughout both the demolition and repair phases.
the primary focus was to maintain a safe working environment for staff, patients, and visitors, as the work was carried out within a live, operational setting. securing the damaged area and restoring the building’s structural integrity were crucial for ensuring safety during and after the repair process.
several factors contributed to the project’s complexity. the restricted workspace required careful co-ordination to maintain safety and accessibility at all times, while minimising disruptions to the health centre's daily operations added further challenges.
the project successfully restored the damaged section of the health centre to its original state.
alongside resolving the structural issues, the repairs improved the thermal insulation of the affected area, leading to a building that is more resilient and energy-efficient.
